Mike Lawing is one of two 2014 honorees chosen to receive the Angelo R. Ditti, Jr. Award for Excellence In Broadcast Engineering.  Mike was given the award at GAB Honors Night June 6.  Here a brief biography for Mike: Lawing started in the business in Fall 1971 at a small AM station WCUG, Cuthbert, Georgia (now off air) where he worked for a old time engineer turned owner, the late George Blaskow, who taught him the basics and gave him a good foundation in radio broadcasting. He continued to work in radio while earning a B.A. at Georgia State University in Atlanta in 1977.  During those years, Lawing worked at WSSA, Morrow,  and WKLS, Atlanta where he worked with SuperStars format innovator Lee Abrams. He worked at WJSR, Athens, now the Fish, ending up at WGST in Fall of 1976 where he was a news anchor, syndication ops, Facilities Manager and part time engineering maintenance. This year will mark Lawing’s 38th with the station and the migration through 4 companies until today.  He was made Chief Engineer of WGST in 1990 and was appointed Director of Engineering/IT in 1997 where he has continued to grow the cluster to the six station combo it is today combined with TTN Traffic and GNN.    Lawing has worked with 11 General Market Managers at this set of stations.
