FCC Emergency Alert System Report Released
On April 21, the FCC released a report on the results of the September 28, 2016 Nationwide EAS Test and recommended next steps. The report finds that 95% of all EAS Participants participated in the test, a 25% increase from the 2011 nationwide test. However, the report finds that “a range of operational and technical issues still remain that affect EAS test performance across all states.” The report recommends that the FCC take specific measures to improve the quality of information available in EAS alerts, and to ensure that EAS remains an efficient and trustworthy source of emergency information.
