FCC Imposes $2.25M Forfeiture on Houston Multi-Channel Video Producer For Retransmitting Broadcast Signals Illegally
News from GAB DC Counsel David O’Connor with Wilkinson Barker & Knauer:
This afternoon the FCC fined TV Max, a small cable system serving the Houston market, $2.25 million for carrying six television stations without their retransmission consent for more than six months. TV Max had been warned by Commission staff about the illegality of its conduct but continued carrying the stations anyway. While this is an extreme case, it reaffirms that the FCC takes an MVPD’s transmission of local stations without retransmission consent seriously.
