Broadcasters Prepare for Hurricane Florence

As Hurricane Florence approaches, citizens will depend on broadcasters more than ever for life-saving information. We remind you that now is the time to start preparing and contacting your local EMA Directors. The incredible work done by broadcasters during Hurricane Irma sets a perfect precedent for how to handle Hurricane Florence. If the GAB can be of assistance during any portion of your station’s storm coverage contact us by phone or email.

We also ask that you share with us pictures, stories, video, audio or links of your station’s storm coverage before, during and after the storm. You can email your storm coverage samples to: admin@gab.org

FCC DIRS PUBLIC NOTICE

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) staff today announced the activation of the Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS) in response to Hurricane Florence. The FCC requests that communications providers that provide service in any of the areas listed below expeditiously submit and update information through DIRS regarding the status of their equipment, restoration efforts, and power (i.e., whether using commercial or back-up power). 
DIRS can be accessed HERE.
 
Reports are requested beginning at 10:00 a.m. on September 13, 2018, and every day after that by 10:00 a.m. until DIRS is deactivated.
